INDUSTRIAL WASTE

THERMAL WASTE DISPOSAL

Incineration of waste represents an alternative to conventional waste management based on disposal in landfills. Several studies have shown that this method of waste destruction generates fewer kilograms of CO22 equivalents than management through landfills, and proof of this is European Directive 2008/98/CE which states that waste recovery must be a management method prioritised over landfills.

The incineration of waste is usually carried out in situations in which a significant reduction of the volume of waste is essential, or in cases in which the waste is considered hazardous and its management by third party companies entails a significant cost for the company generating this waste, in addition to the risk entailed by handling this type of waste.

Destruction is carried out in the incineration furnace, in a chamber made from refractory material (concrete or brick) protected with a very thick external sheet of steel. The waste is incinerated thanks to industrial burners that can operate with natural gas, LPG, Propane or Diesel. The consumption of these burners will largely depend on the nature of the waste, its moisture and its Lower Calorific Value (LCV).

Incineration allows a great reduction of the volume of waste. Additionally, self-management of waste often allows economic savings and not being dependent on third party companies dedicated to the removal of waste

Sectors

Kalfrisa helps the main fields of application of waste incineration such as:

  • Companies dedicated to waste management. Urban or industrial waste.
  • Destruction of biohazardous waste. Hospitals and animal laboratories.
  • Companies dedicated to the OIL & GAS sector. Waste with a high LCV which is easy to destroy.
  • Agricultural sector. Biosafety of animal farms and plantations.

We will help you from when the need to install an incineration furnace arises to the training of your operators once it is installed and put into operation, and during its whole lifespan.

Based on the destruction capacity expected for the installation, our technical team will help you identify the most effective model of furnace, visit the installation or meet with your technicians to create implementation and coordination plans for its transport, assembly and commissioning.

Urban/industrial waste

Kalfrisa has a wide range of static and rotating furnaces for the destruction of practically any type of waste, achieving the highest possible efficiency of the device. Our furnaces cover a range from 15 to 4000kg/h.

Destruction of hospital / laboratory waste

Due to the hazard of the waste, this waste must be incinerated practically in situ and with the least handling possible. Kalfrisa offers you furnaces which can be installed near or within hospitals and laboratories.

Destruction of farming waste.

Biosafety on large animal farms and plantations is an increasing concern, as swine fevers, bird flus or pests on plants may cause serious production problems. The elimination of unhealthy specimens with our devices may slow the spread of diseases on the farm.

RECOVERY

The incineration generates gases at 850 or 1100ºC depending on the type of waste and local regulations in effect. This whole volume of gases can be made to pass through different devices to recover thermal energy from the process. The recovery methods are as follows:

  • Generation of hot water through recovery boiler.
  • Generation of steam through saturated steam boilers.
  • Generation of hot air through Gas – Air exchangers.

PURIFICATION

Depending on the applicable regulations and the nature of the waste, gas purification systems can be included to neutralise acid gases, dioxins and other components which are harmful to health. The purification components used most are:

  • Dry channel: Addition of Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and activated carbon to the flow of gases + sleeve filter.
  • Semi-wet channel: Addition of Lime (Ca(OH)2) and activated carbon to the flow of gases + sleeve filter.
  • Wet channel: Wet scrubber with addition of Lime + sleeve filter.
