Hydrogen crematorium furnace

During the inauguration of the Clean Technologies Design and Validation Center, we presented the world’s first hydrogen crematorium furnace. This furnace does not alter the cremation process conditions, as it replaces conventional fossil fuels with hydrogen as the primary fuel.

• Decarbonization: It eliminates CO₂ and CO emissions generated by fossil fuels, replacing them with water vapor emissions.

• Energy Efficiency: Energy consumption is comparable to that of fossil fuels, but without their negative environmental impact.

The development of this furnace, capable of operating with 100% hydrogen or hybridized with fossil fuels, represents a historic milestone in the decarbonization of the cremation sector, an area traditionally dependent on fossil fuels, and demonstrates Kalfrisa’s ability to implement sustainable solutions in sensitive industrial processes.

Thanks to this innovation, a real pathway is opened to meet the carbon neutrality targets promoted by the European Union in its energy transition and circular economy strategy.

Furthermore, the project serves as a model for technological integration, combining operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, and reinforces Kalfrisa’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint in sectors where electrification or the use of clean energy has so far been a complex challenge.
