Summary:
LIFE ABATE aims at increasing the sustainability of mechanical biological waste treatment (MBT) plants by demonstrating the technical, economic, environmental and social benefits of an innovative technology for the integral abatement of non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) and CO2 from gaseous emissions. This integral process, based on a VOC concentration stage by KALFRISA rotoconcentrator, (RC), and a subsequent degradation stage (either a biological or a thermal process), reduces the emissions of NMVOC and minimises the release of odours from MBT plants, while decreasing the overall energy requirements and avoids natural gas consumption in thermal oxidizers. Additionally, emitted CO2 will be used in greenhouse agriculture to promote crops growth and improve production, reducing the overall emissions of this greenhouse gas from MBT plants.

LIFE ABATE's final aim is to drastically reduce the emissions of NMVOCs, and CO2 as a secondary main target, and their negative effects on the human and ecosystem health and well-being at the expense of less energy consumption (reducing natural gas consumption, using biogas if necessary and saving power) compared to current treatment systems

The objectives of the project are aligned with the goals of our organization in terms of Circular Economy and sustainability.
